About Me

Having dealt with chronic pain for over 40 years, I moved from High School track and field to an average walker/runner, and youth soccer coach. As I aged, the pain became more debilitating and one day I had a doctor tell me that there was nothing he could do to fix it. I was 48. At that point, I decided to take back my life and the pain was not going to win. I got off the sofa, loaded the 0-5K app on my phone. I finished that, and went to the 0-10K, 0-21K, and ran my first half marathon when I was 50. I ran my first marathon (and last road marathon in Vancouver BC, it was absolutely beautiful) on my 53rd birthday! Since then, I have completed 2 50K’s, 40 Miler, and 3 12-hour races. 2025 will be a year of mileage building for me and putting into practice what I tell others to do all the time. I am registered for the Cocadona 250 next year and will run that week to celebrate my 60th birthday!

I may be slow, but I am still lapping everyone on the sofa!

Coaching Philosophy

As an experienced 50+ runner, I know what it is to wake up one morning and discover that despite your athletic nature, you have lost muscle mass. I know what it is to hit the wall! To feel like your legs no longer belong to you when you try to run. To wake up and hobble in the morning. I can’t say I have fixed “all” of that, but I am back running ultras and it is amazing the things we know now to help keep us going during the best years of our life.

I take a holistic approach, and have training and access to look at genetics and nutrition biomarkers so you are not just guessing when it comes to supplementation. Training is periodized according to your goals. If you have races, then we train in blocks that are appropriate for that. As a mature runner, not everyone can train in a 7 day week, so sometimes we schedule longer trainer weeks in your training cycle. Sometimes we have less weeks in a training block. We use your feed back, your response, to see how we move forward.

I also work in strength training.

Sure you can download a free plan. I did this as well a lot prior to my total body shutdown a few years ago. The “pre-made” and AI plans are not always taking your best interests, your strengths, your weaknesses, or your life schedule into consideration.

Trust! Trust me as the coach, and trust the program will get you there, and then come the taper… trust the process!

Finally! Recovery! This is a huge part of my coaching. Taking time away, using different movement patterns to break the repetitive use. SLEEP!!! Good nutrition! All of this is recovery!
Allow proper recovery! You worked hard, you have demanded much from yourself, now let it rest, feed it, let it sleep, and do some fun active recovery. In a few weeks, we’ll talk about the next goal!
