About Me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, endurance athlete, wife, mother of two, and the founder of Unlocked Counseling. With over 20 years of experience in the mental health field and a competitive background in marathon and ultramarathon events, I understand the physical and mental challenges that come with pushing through pain, setbacks, and self-doubt. I firmly believe that sustainable performance and personal growth are only possible when we develop a mindset that supports these goals.

Throughout my career, I’ve balanced the roles of therapist and athlete, experiencing my own share of highs and lows in both my sport and personal life. After a significant injury and surgery in 2024, followed by a lengthy recovery, I finally took the leap I had been considering for years—pivoting my counseling practice to focus primarily on working with athletes. It became clear to me that this is where my passion and expertise truly lie: helping individuals strengthen their mental game and realize that mental resilience deserves as much attention and training as physical conditioning.

After completing dozens of marathons, I first broke the 3-hour marathon barrier when I turned 40. While I had spent years training my body, it wasn’t until then that I truly understood the importance of mental strength in pursuing big goals and believing in myself. Since then, I’ve achieved significant milestones, including placing 3rd at the Leadville Trail 100 in 2017, winning the US Masters Trail Marathon Series in Moab twice, and continuing to compete at a high level in the Masters Running category. After taking a break in 2024, I’m excited to be back and plan to compete in the Leadville Trail Series again this summer.

While my passion for running is as strong as it was when I first started in my early 20s, I also believe in the value of engaging in other areas of life beyond sport. This season of life has me embracing the exciting, challenging, and rewarding rollercoaster of parenting two teenagers who are forging their own paths, traveling and adventuring with my husband (and running coach, Mike!), growing my practice, and making time to unplug and explore as often as I can

Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.

About My Business

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (since 2006), and my approach is warm, relational, and strengths-based. I focus on working with athletes as whole people, rather than simply concentrating on performance metrics or the symptoms they may be experiencing. I combine mental skills training (such as mindfulness, mental rehearsal, and goal-setting) with a deeper exploration of what lies beneath the surface: identity, purpose, fear, pressure, and the stories we tell ourselves.

Whether clients are grappling with race-day nerves, struggling with a dip in confidence and focus, facing relationship challenges, or dealing with mental health concerns like anxiety or depression, I meet them where they are—with empathy, expertise, and a steadfast belief in the inner resilience they already possess.

While I rely on evidence-based practices, I believe a respectful, trusting relationship is key to successful counseling and coaching. I focus on building this connection by avoiding impersonal, clinical jargon and instead creating a relatable, supportive environment where clients can develop the tools to unlock their highest potential
