Our Mission is to increase women’s participation and opportunity in trail running and hiking through inspiration, education and empowerment.
Originally created in 1983 by David Horton as a point to point 50 mile race, MMTR grew under his guidance to become one of the most iconic and recognizable races on the east coast.
After 25 years of directing MMTR, Dr. Horton passed the reins of MMTR on to Clark Zealand who continued the rich tradition of MMTR for another 15 years.
Beginning in 2023, a new ownership group began to take MMTR to new heights and reach a new generation of ultra runners. The new ownership group, Tim Spaulding, Jordan Cooter, Brenton Swyers and Michael Newhall, co-direct MMTR with their own style and fresh vision for the future while preserving the rich history of MMTR and honoring the thousands of runners who have crossed the finish line in Montebello, VA.
