Who is faster – human or horse? It’s anyone’s race at the first Steel City Man vs. Horse!
Modeled after similar race formats in the UK and Arizona, runners and riders on horseback will toe the starting line together at the first Steel City Man vs. Horse race, to be held at Hillman State Park on Saturday, September 13, 2025. Both runners and riders will compete simultaneously, against each other, on the trails to see who can complete the course faster.
Half Marathon and 10K distances will be available to both runners and riders. This is a trail race, but will include about one mile of dirt road and one mile of blacktop. Runners, no experience with horses is necessary. All runners and riders will be required to attend a pre-race safety meeting to discuss trail etiquette.
First, second, and third place overall finishers will be mixed gender and include horses, in order of finish time. We will also recognize the top three finishers in each of the horse, female runner, and male runner categories.
