What does it feel like to run in my fifties? It is not that much different than in my forties. Since my peak performance years were in my early to mid-forties, it isn’t that much of a stretch to remain competitive and passionate about the sport in my fifties.
Mary Coté is a competitive distance runner and a personal running coach and fitness trainer, who has trained runners of all ages from children to masters with various abilities. Mary has most recently started a brand of women’s active wear called RunAbout that is performance driven and fashionable for running, hiking, yoga and anything that gets you moving. Her personal achievements include twice qualifying to run in the U.S. Women’s Olympic marathon trials in both 2004 and 2008. She has run over 35 marathons with a personal best of 2:46 in 2007, and over 50 half marathons with a personal best of 1:20 in 2006. Most recently, Mary completed a 50 mile trail race finishing as second woman overall in 2016. Mary believes in a balanced approach to training by incorporating running on trails, roads, and hiking combined with strength workouts, yoga and stretching, which has kept her enjoying the running and racing community now into her 50’s.
