Sierra TrailBlazers Vice President Erin McCarthy wasn’t born an athlete. In fact, she barely passed P.E. in grade school. How things change! Last April, Erin completed her first 100k Ultra, Canyons, in Auburn, CA. The wife in a military family that moved around, Erin first got into running 11 years ago as a way to meet new friends. Her first ever race was a 5k in Arkansas. Erin settled in Grass Valley six years ago with her husband and two sons (now ages 18 and 20), and discovered both a friendly running community and a new passion: trail running. She’s always felt most alive when she’s in the mountains, and her all-time favorite run is the 14 miles from Sugarbowl to Squaw. A certified health coach and yoga instructor, Erin is excited about all things health and fitness. It’s not unusual to see her do a 1.5 hour hot yoga class, then run 9 miles all before most people have had their morning coffee. In rare moments of downtime, she likes to relax with a cold hazy IPA, classic Dead tunes, and her puppy Nellie. Her bucket list running goal is a 100 mile ultra.
