I’m Shannon, the therapist and yoga teacher behind The Mindful Goldfish. I got into this work because I believe healing happens through the body, not just the mind, and because I’ve watched people carry stress and old stories for years longer than they needed to simply because no one showed them another way through.
My practice is based in Carson City, Nevada, where I work with individuals one-on-one and teach trauma-informed yoga in the community, including at Grassroots Yoga and Fitness Center. Athletes and active people are often some of the toughest folks to reach in a therapy room, because so much of what you carry lives in your training, your recovery, your relationship to your own body. That’s exactly where I like to meet people.
You know what the happiest animal on Earth is? It's a goldfish. You know why? It's got a ten-second memory. Be a goldfish, Sam.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC), and I hold a 200-hour yoga teacher certification (RYT). My clinical approach centers on EMDR (a therapy that helps your brain reprocess stuck or overwhelming memories) and Internal Family Systems, or IFS (a way of understanding the different parts of yourself, like the part that pushes you to perform and the part that’s exhausted underneath it, so they can work together instead of against each other).
Trauma-informed yoga is woven through both my individual sessions and my group classes. For athletes specifically, that often means helping you notice what your body is actually telling you, separate the discipline that serves you from the patterns that are quietly running you into the ground, and build a steadier relationship with stress, both on and off the trail or course.
What you can expect from me: no jargon without translation, no pressure to perform insight you don’t feel yet, and a curious, steady presence while we figure out what’s actually going on underneath the fatigue, the overwhelm, or the behaviors that used to work and don’t anymore.
