Overview
Welcome to Angel’s Rest! We’ve been working on this one for several years and are excited to be able to offer the first trail race on Angel’s Rest in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge! Sweeping views, stream crossings, challenging trails, and stunning waterfalls await you on the 20M and 10K courses. Both distances run by the famous Multnomah and Wahkeena Falls. The rebirth of sections of the Columbia River Gorge burnt in the 2017 Eagle Creek fire can be seen as you wind uphill through the forest.
20M
The 20 mile course starts at the Benson State Recreation Area and takes you out to Ainsworth Day Use Area via a few trails where the first aid station is located. You will return almost to Multnomah Falls but turn onto Larch Mtn Trail out to the second aid station. Now it’s time for a little hell to heaven! You’ll veer onto Devils Rest Trail making your way out to Angel’s Rest (photo op!) passing the beautiful Wahkeena Falls on your way to the finish line where post-race festivities await you. The course consists of 80% single-track, 15% paved trail and 5% two-track. There is 4700ft of elevation gain and 4700ft of elevation loss.
HALF MARATHON
Angel’s Rest half marathon course starts at Benson State Rec Area. You will then run past Multnomah Falls and turn onto Larch Mountain Trail, running to the top of the Falls. As the course continues, you make your way over to Devil’s Rest and then onto Angel’s Rest – enjoying the fantastic views of the Columbia River Gorge along the way. After tagging the top of Angel’s Rest, you’ll head back to the finish at Benson State Rec Area with a final view of Multnomah Falls. The half marathon course has 3300ft of climbing and one aid station. The course consists of 70% single-track, 20% two-track/forest service road and 10% pavement. You will have 6 hours to complete the race.
10K
The 10K course covers one of the most popular routes in the Columbia River Gorge. Starting and finishing at Benson State Recreation Area the course takes you up Larch Mtn Trail and down Wahkeena Trail. You’ll pass Multnomah and Wahkeena Falls on your way. This one loop course packs a lot into 6.2 miles! The course consists of 75% single track and 25% paved trail with 1600ft of elevation gain and 1600ft of elevation loss.
The 10K provides a discounted entry to young runners under 20 as part of the Youth Trail Initiative.
