About Me

Well hello there! Let’s meet. My name is Kenzie. My clients call me Coach K. I am a 37 year old smallish human and a glutton for type II fun. I am a wife and mother of 5 kids (3 humans and 2 dogs) as well as running coach with a niche in trail and ultra distance running and racing. I am based out of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains in Utah but lived in Ireland for a year and enjoyed exploring over 18 countries by foot.

I am a sponsored runner with personal pursuits in ultra distance trail running. For the last 7 years I have been mainly focused on ultra distance mountain races but have also completed an Ironman 70.3 and countless marathons and 13.1’s (even a 50 mile all pavement race – twice because once is never enough?). My passion is helping others find their potential in whatever their running goals may be. Through a combination of scientific principles and customized training, I coach clients anywhere from a 5k to 100 miles on all surfaces.

Why I am a coach:I have heard comments like “I can’t even fathom running that far.” I couldn’t have myself 12 years ago. I remember having a goal to simply run on a treadmill without walking for 30 minutes. I remember the first time I ran 4 miles without stopping and couldn’t believe how far that felt. I remember signing up for my first 13.1 and being scared to death about how bad it was going to hurt. I remember crossing the finish line of my first full marathon and feeling like I was a strong woman. Here is what I have said: If you can train and complete a 10k, you can finish a 13.1. If you can complete a half marathon, you can complete a full. If you can complete a full, you can complete an ultra. I simply stick to a plan to build my base, take a leap of faith and watched the training work its magic. Here is my point: we often see what other people are doing and immediately assume that there is NO WAY we would ever be able to do that. Not true. It takes someone ordinary believing in themselves then simply acting upon it in order to make them “extra” ordinary. If they weren’t ordinary to start with, they couldn’t have become “extra”ordinary. If you build the machine, it will perform beyond any limit your mind has put on it. That is, if you decide it is possible for yourself. TRUST ME, if I can do it, you CAN do it. You don’t have to run an ultra marathon, you just choose your impossible and persist until you’ve conquered it. Then you can look around you and say with excitement “what does life have in store for me now”.

Some examples of races that I have coached athletes through:

  • Western States
  • Black Canyon 100k
  • Hardrock 100
  • UTMB
  • Boston Marathon
  • Cirque Series Races
  • The Rut 50k

Let's empower each other to unearth how extraordinary we really are.

My Coaching Style / Methodology

As a client, you are a person first and athlete second. That means that while running and running related goals are important, they are not what makes a person. Everyone has other commitments in life, be it family, work, community, and all of these factor in to who you are as a runner. Stress is stress, regardless of whether it’s training induced stress or life induced stress, the body reacts the same way. My job as your coach is to make sure that the training that we put in place always enhances these others facets of life instead of taking away from them.

As a coached athlete, you receive a Premium Training Peaks account. This is an online platform created for endurance athletes where I upload the weekly training, analyze the data after a workout has been done and then make adjustments on a bi-weekly or weekly basis in order to create the most effective results in getting you from point A to point B. There is a daily communication loop in place via the Training Peaks system where we can have an ongoing dialogue to create context around how you are feeling with your training. There is a science to human performance with plenty of metrics in place to predict and measure success. There is a finesse with coaching and working with people that truly is an art crafted over years of experience. This can’t be taught in a classroom or earned with a weekend certification. I am passionate about movement through mountains and I find incredible joy in helping others experience the same thing.
