Carrie grew up in a small town in Connecticut, where her love of trails began with a cross country coach who encouraged and led long runs in the woods. She began riding horses at a young age, following in the footsteps of her older sister, Laney. A move to Boston for college, then grad school, led to accepting her first teaching job in San Diego, California. In San Diego, she discovered her love of trail running and ran her first marathon – in Death Valley. In 2010, she relocated to Asheville, NC where she resides now. She is a leader in her local Trail Sisters chapter (helping to manage a TS book club) and a board member with North Carolina Mountain Trail Runners. While in Asheville, she rediscovered her love of horses, and began riding endurance and competing in ride and tie events, while also running ultras. Widowed in 2018, she shares her home with two dogs and a cat. Her horse, Comet, lives nearby with friends. She is recently unemployed after leaving her career teaching high school English. As someone who loves to travel and find trails wherever she goes, she purchased a 1965 truck bed camper this fall and is currently restoring it.
