My passion for running is definitely rooted in trails, and I noticed very early on that there is a huge discrepancy in the number of men and women competing in trail races. I’d love to see more women try and succeed at trail running, especially ultra-distances. As of 2016, fewer than 25% of 100-mile finishers were women. That number is growing, but the growth has been slow. I believe there is a real need in the trail community for ultrarunning coaches who understand the training needs and constraints of 30-50 year-old women (the largest demographic of female ultrarunners). I know that in my area (Washington DC) where there are tons of runners and running coaches, very few are experienced in trail running, let alone ultrarunning. I want to change that. My “why” is to get more women out on the trails and excited about running and racing long distances.
Believe that you can run farther or faster. Believe that you’re young enough, old enough, strong enough, and so on to accomplish everything you want to do. Don’t let worn-out beliefs stop you from moving beyond yourself.
